Naomira Kitchen Pharmacy · Four e-books

Your numbers are talking. Learn their language.

Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and that belly that won't move are rarely four separate problems. They are your body telling you the same story. These four books teach you to read it, understand which system is struggling, and support it from your own kitchen.

Written by Claudia Naomi (Nao), TCM Practitioner & Herbalist, Toronto. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal tradition and current research.

The thing most people are never told

One root. Four warning lights.

Insulin is the key that lets sugar into your cells. When cells stop answering it, the pancreas makes more and more. That high insulin quietly tells your kidneys to hold salt, tells your liver to make fat, locks fat into your belly and, after years, wears out the pancreas.

This can run for ten years or more while your sugar test still looks "normal". By the time a number is flagged, the root has been growing for a long time. That is why treating each number on its own so often feels like a losing battle, and why every book in this series goes back to the root.

What is your number telling you?

Enter a reading from your monitor, meter or lab report. You'll see where it sits and what may be happening in your body. This is the first page of what the books teach.

Use an average of several readings taken seated and rested. Categories follow Hypertension Canada's 2025 guideline.

For education only, not a diagnosis. A reading of 180/120 or higher with chest pain, breathlessness, vision changes, weakness or confusion: call 911.

Three habits that help all four

Every book is built on these. You can begin before you buy anything.

1

Protein first at breakfast

20–30 g of protein (eggs, Greek yogurt, beans, fish) sets your insulin for the whole day. A sweet breakfast spikes sugar, insulin follows, and by 11 am you're crashing and craving.

2

Eat your plate in order

Vegetables, then protein and fat, then starch last. Fibre lines the gut and protein releases GLP-1, the hormone that slows your stomach. The same plate, eaten in a different order, gives a gentler sugar rise.

3

Walk 10 minutes after meals

Your muscles are your biggest sugar sponge. Moving them opens sugar doors without needing extra insulin. Ten minutes after lunch and dinner is enough to make a difference.

The Metabolic Flush Water

A gentle infusion to sip between meals. Bay leaf brings eugenol and cineole; cumin brings cuminaldehyde. Both are studied for their support of blood sugar and blood fats.

  • 2–3 dried bay leaves
  • ½ tsp whole cumin seeds (whole, not powder)
  • 1 litre of water
  • Optional: cucumber slices or a squeeze of lemon
  1. Add to a jug of room-temperature water.
  2. Refrigerate 4–6 hours or overnight.
  3. Strain well and sip through the morning.

Never swallow bay leaves. If you take diabetes medication, check with your doctor before adding therapeutic spices.

Who wrote this

Claudia Naomi

Nao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and herbalist based in Toronto, whose practice draws on TCM, traditional herbalism and Ayurvedic traditions. She wrote this series for women who have been handed a number and a prescription but never an explanation, and especially for women of African and diaspora heritage, whose bodies and kitchens are too often missing from health advice.

She also knows this from the inside. High blood pressure runs in her family, and her own reading once stood at 176/116. She took the medication she was given while her numbers were high, and she knew that was not how her story would end, so she studied and applied everything in these books. In her 40s, her reading is now 121/76, with normal cholesterol and blood sugar results. Her story is her own, not a promise of yours.

Her approach is simple: understand your body, work with your doctor, and use what's already in your kitchen with knowledge and respect.

Questions

Before you start

Will these books replace my medication?

No. They help you understand your body and support it with food, spices and daily habits, alongside your doctor's care. Never stop or change medication on your own.

I'm on medication. Can I still follow them?

Yes, with your doctor's or pharmacist's knowledge. These spices work on the same pathways as many medicines, so they can add to their effect. Every book tells you which combinations to watch, such as hibiscus with blood pressure pills, or cinnamon with diabetes medicine, and to keep logging your readings.

Do I need special ingredients?

Almost everything is already in your kitchen or local grocery: cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, garlic, bay leaves, cumin, cardamom, star anise, fennel, cloves, green tea. A few, like milky oats or hibiscus, are easy to find at health food or African grocery stores.

Which units do the books use?

Canadian units (mmol/L) with US units (mg/dL) alongside for blood sugar, and Canadian guideline ranges throughout.

Is this suitable in pregnancy?

Cooking amounts of these spices are fine for most people, but the therapeutic teas and supplements are not designed for pregnancy or breastfeeding. Speak with your care provider.

How do I receive the books?

As digital downloads straight after purchase, readable on any phone, tablet or computer, with printable trackers.
